AMCET Innovation Hub is an innovation space owned by the Al-Maktoum College of Engineering and Technology (AMCET) located at Mbezi. Beach in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The Hub focuses on discovering, nurturing and mentoring students and communities with innovative technological and entrepreneurial solutions to problems facing their community. The Hub has been operating officially since 2018.
Currently AMCET Innovation Hub is running the following programs:
- Internship program
This is an 8 to 12 weeks program which focuses on unlocking the great potential of youth by providing them with technological and entrepreneurial skills that support them in creating solutions based on problems that are facing their community. Within 8 to 12 weeks interns are able to come up with innovative solutions and at the end of the program they present a prototype of the solution that targets to solve the problem.
- Mentorship program
This is a program that focuses on mentoring people who have ideas but lack enough skills to turn their ideas into business models. The Hub provides capacity building to these people based on their ideas and mentoring them from the beginning of the idea, shaping these ideas up to the business stage.
- Coding for schools’ program
The targeted attendees of this program are primary and secondary school students whereby AMCET Innovation Hub provides them programming skills and other soft skills that enable them to solve different problems in their society using technology. So far, we have ten schools that are working with us in this program (6 secondary schools and 4 primary schools).
iv. Ndoto program
This is a platform that focuses on discovering great potentials in the young generation (Form IV leavers) and mentoring them with soft skills that will help them to identify their purposes, contribution to their communities, envision their dreams and improve their career. The Ndoto project came to bridge the unemployment gap that exists among most youths resulting from the lack of skills that most employers are looking for. By having this platform youth will be able to acquire different skills that will help not only to fit on the job market but also to create their own jobs.
