The Institute of Biotechnology and Food Science, Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences (formerly known as the Institute of Genetics and Physiology, Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences) is a basic research base for crop stress resistance, pest and disease resistance applications in Hebei Province. It is engaged in research on stress resistance physiology, breeding, and pest control technology of maize. The institute had carried out a lots of international cooperation projects, such as: project of science and technology assistance to developing countries supported by China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, key international cooperation projects of China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, talent introduction projects of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, 948 key projects of the Ministry of Agriculture, and international cooperation projects of Hebei Province. We have established long-term friendly relations with countries such as Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Egypt, and Thailand. We undertook the key international cooperation project "Cooperative Research on Exchange, Exploration, and Innovation of Agricultural Germplasm Resources in Central South China (2006-2009)". In 2014, we carried out the routine scientific and technological assistance project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, "Research and Demonstration of Joint Technology for Drought resistant and Disease resistant Hybrid Corn in China and Kenya", integrated advantageous resources such as talent, technology, and crop varieties, actively assisted domestic leading enterprises in "going global", and demonstrated corn varieties to Kenya and Tanzania. We signed MOUs with Addis Ababa University in 2014 and with the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Technology in October 2017. In 2020, we presided over the Ministry of Science and Technology's scientific and technological assistance project for developing countries, titled "Research and Demonstration of Joint Technologies for Drought resistant Corn Cultivation between China and Ethiopia". The project team shared the supporting agricultural production technology and management experience by carrying out technology demonstration in the local area and sending senior agricultural experts, which was recognized by government officials and farmers, effectively enhanced the friendship between the two sides, and was a living embodiment of the strategic vision of the "the Belt and Road" between the two countries. Over the years, the exchange and mutual visits between the Institute of Biology and Food and African countries have laid a solid foundation for agricultural cooperation between China and Africa.
