  On April 13, a meeting was held in Wuhan on building a platform for China-Africa Innovation Cooperation Center. Du Yun, deputy director of Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Department, Mei Li, second-level researcher of Foreign Cooperation Department, Chen Wei, professor of Wuhan University of Technology, Yuan Guobao, president of Hubei Technology Market Association, Yuan Yuan, director of planning Department of Hubei Technology Exchange attended the opening meeting.

Wu Hao stressed in his report that the Wuhan Botanical Garden will actively promote the construction of the innovation center platform based on the existing achievements of the China-Africa Joint Research Center, as well as the research platform and cooperation network with Africa. The experts listened carefully to the work reports of each undertaking unit and put forward suggestions and specific guidance on the implementation of "goal-oriented, systematic scheme and diversified participation" during the construction of the innovation platform. The China-Africa Innovation Cooperation Center will further integrate the economic and social development of China and African countries through scientific and technological innovation. Afterwards, experts and undertaking units carried out in-depth discussions on the key work of innovation cooperation platform construction.

  The China-Africa Innovation and Cooperation Center was one of the important initiatives put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the opening ceremony of the 2018 FOCAC Beijing Summit. In May 2020, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued a document supporting the Hubei provincial people's government to lead the establishment of the China-Africa Innovation Cooperation Center. The success of this opening meeting marks the official launch of the construction of China-Africa Innovation Cooperation Center. As a national-level innovation platform for conducting economic, social, scientific and technological research and cooperation with African countries, the Center will play an important role in implementing the China-Africa Science and Technology Partnership Plan, improving the layout of the Belt and Road technology transfer network, and building a China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.
