Notice on the Short Video Competition for African Students Studying in China

In order to build a platform for exchange and cooperation between Chinese and African young talents, cultivate the innovative and entrepreneurial ability of African students in new media communication and strengthen the dialogue between Chinese and African civilizations, the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, China Science and Technology Exchange Center and the Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province will jointly organize the Short Video Competition for African Students Studying in China, the details of which are announced as follows:

Promote humanistic exchanges between Chinese and African youth and build a China-Africa community with a shared future

Time: June to November, 2022

V. Schedule of the event

(I) Requirements for participants and entries

  1. Participants should be international students of African nationality studying in China’s universities and institutions and abide by the laws and regulations of China and their countries of nationality. The Competition Organizing Committee will not return the submissions, so participants are requested to make their own backups.

 

  1. Participants can be individuals or teams, but each individual and team can only submit one entry. For team-based entries, teams can be formed across universities and with multiple nationalities, and each member should provide true and complete personal and contact information as required.

 

  1. Participants should focus on the theme of “China and Africa”, and can produce short video works from an angle and topic of their own choice. The work should be 1-5 minutes long, in MP4, AVI or MOV format, and have a resolution of not less than 1280×720@30fps. If the video is not in Chinese, bilingual subtitles including Chinese translation should be provided.

 

  1. The entries should be original, which can objectively and truly record and reflect what the participants have seen and felt during their study in China. The participants own the full intellectual property rights of their entries, and they have not published them publicly or submitted them to other media or events before the competition.

 

  1. Upon receipt of a submission, the participant shall be deemed to have granted the Competition Organizing Committee the irrevocable and unrestricted right to reproduce, distribute, lease, exhibit, perform, screen, broadcast, disseminate on the information network, film, adapt, translate and compile the work submitted by it, and modify the content of the work submitted while respecting the original intention of the participant.

 

(II) Rules and procedures of the competition

  1. Call for entries. The Competition Organizing Committee will call for submissions nationwide, and participants must send their entries and registration documents to the designated email address, and the deadline for submissions is September 20.

 

  1. Experts’ evaluation. The Competition Organizing Committee will organize relevant experts to select outstanding works with better topics, content and quality from all the entries that passed the qualification examination for online voting.

 

  1. Online voting. The Competition Organizing Committee starts online voting on the official WeChat public account, video account and TikTok account of the China-Africa Innovation and Cooperation Center for the winning entries selected by experts, and selects the winning entries based on the number of likes, comments, retweets, votes and other data.

 

  1. Exhibition. The information of the winners will be released during the event of the China-Africa Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and the winning works will be exhibited on the event site and relevant media platforms.

 

(III)Awards

There will be 5 first prizes, 10 second prizes, and 20 third prizes.

 

(IV) Supportive policy

  1. No application or registration fees will be charged to the participants of the Competition.

 

  1. China-Africa Innovation and Cooperation Center will give priority to invite the participants of the winning entries to participate in the subsequent China-Africa Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship related activities.
